Windows 8: Microsoft reaffirms ARM won't run x86 apps

  When it was announced that Windows 8 would also support the ARM architecture, it was immediately questioned if x86 applications would run on ARM PCs. There has been some confusion on the matter but Steven Sinofsky clarified during a Q&A session this week that x86 applications will not run on ARM based PCs.


  This news really shouldn’t come as a major surprise considering the differences between the two architectures. One argument made about why Microsoft didn’t work to create such cross functionality is because of malware and viruses. Slashgear reported that Sinofsky said, “if we do let them run, we just brought the perceived negatives of some of the ecosystem.” He explains, “so, people say, great, now it’s easy to port viruses and malware and we’ll port those."


  The architectural differences between the two platforms is so different that to make it even a possibility would most likely require a virtualization extension. If this were the case, it would undermine the entire purpose of supporting the ARM architecture, not to mention the performance would be less than desirable.


  The good news is that ARM based Windows 8 products will not be susceptible to the same attacks as the traditional desktop products. Being that there will be considerably less ARM based products out their when compared to x86 or x64 based installs, they should be much less of a target for those with malicious intent.


  Microsoft has been saying that ARM and x86 will not be compatible since CES. While this information is not entirely new, there had been some information circling, due to a slightly ambiguous quote, that caused some to believe that this was possible. The confusion came back in May when Intel let slip information regarding Windows 8 which caused Microsoft to pin down Intel for releasing inaccurate information. The confusion arose when Microsoft didn’t specify what information Intel leaked that was inaccurate.


  As we said earlier, this is a re-affirmation that ARM and x86 applications will not work natively across the gap. If you had hopes and dreams and were living on rumors that this information was true, sadly, you will be disappointed.

Windows 8: wish list of features

   With wild anticipation, let’s say that after the success of Windows 7, why would so many people expect more from Windows 8? Any why should Windows 8 come out so soon after Windows 7. After all, many companies, believe it or not, have not moved to Windows 7. They are either stuck on Vista, or on XP. It may come as a shock, but a lot of companies are not with the cutting edge of technology. They don’t have the money to upgrade the software and or hardware, or the money to upgrade the skills of their IT staff. So they are stuck behind an ancient Operating System, which makes do.


   But we’ve been hearing rumors about Windows 8 coming out in 2012. Maybe, maybe not. But what do people want from such a new Operating system. Well, here is a Windows 8 wish list.

New Welcome screen

A new User Interface similar to the Windows phone 7 has been seen in the latest builds of Windows 8; this would mark a distinct introduction to the computer’s use.

‘Modern’ Task Manager

A colleague wrote about this yesterday. So let me just add, with new screen features and statistics about usage, it should be a different utility vehicle.

Portable Workspaces

You may be able to put Windows 8 OS on a USB stick. This would be a portable development.

Aero auto-colorization

A new feature that reacts to the most prominent color of the Windows wallpaper.

Hybrid Booting

Core operating system files are ‘put to sleep’ which enables the startup time to be significantly reduced.

Simple system ‘reset’

When needed, you can reset the OS to it’s default settings.

Ribbons in Windows Explorer

Ribbons which are prominent in Office 2010, will change the interface look

ARM processor ‘tablet support’

ARM is a a low-power processor which allows devices to run longer on batteries and it will be available on Win8.

Genuine center

You will now be able to organize  your Windows licences with this center.

Cloud-based roaming profiles

With cloud operations becoming more frequent, it would only stand to reason that they would be available in the Windows 8.

Push notifications

This is similar to or is expected to be similar to the Windows Phone 7 push notification.

Improved disk cleanup

Cleaning your disk or Operating system by removing junk files will be easier and automatic.

‘Modern Reader’ PDF support

PDF files will have a new reader, and perhaps editor functionality.

Internet Explorer 10

Continue to enhance IE with a new version that competes easier with Chrome, and Firefox.

Internet Explorer ‘Immersive’

A slimmed down version of the browser will feel and look like the phone version.

SmartScreen file filter

SmartScreen filters out spam or bad links based on community responses.

Windows App Store

Get files, updates, and Apps from the Windows App Store.

History Vault

This will replace the Backup and Restore feature in Windows 7

Step-by-step install

The install wizard will be made easier to use for novices to work with.

ISO mounting

Users will be able to use ISO images and burn them as needed.

Native wake on LAN

Even if your PC is hibernating or turned off, a network push through will be able to turn it back on.

Webcam application

Users will be able to use their web cam with the new User Interface. They will be able start and stop videos, capture images immediately or after a short delay.

Summary

Windows 8 comes at a time when there is a lot of push for implementing many new technologies into an old system. Operating Systems still control the computer and interface with the CPU. But with the advent of apps, and how they changed the mobile technology, the impact is now felt on PC’s and OS’s to break from the past and enter a new era of PC and user interaction. One thing is for sure, the next generation of Operating Systems will not look like the last generation.

MacBook Pros to get a pre-holiday speed bump?

   Apple's MacBook Pro series could be the next in line for a hardware upgrade, according to a new report.
Citing anonymous sources "with proven insight into Apple's future product plans," AppleInsider says the Mac maker plans to introduce new models of its Pro portables with speedier Intel processors. The new models are said to ship in time for the holiday shopping season, though could arrive this month, the outlet says.
How big a bump are we talking about? AppleInsider points to Intel's latest crop of quad-core Core i7 chips, which come in at 2.4GHz, 2.5GHz, and 2.7GHz. That's compared to 2.0GHz, 2.2GHz and 2.3GHz in the existing 15- and 17-inch models. The 13-inch MacBook Pro could be in line for a slightly smaller boost, moving from the 2.7GHz Core i7 chip to the 2.8GHz model.
Apple last updated its MacBook Pro line in February, bringing Intel's Sandy Bridge CPUs to the entire line, as well as adding Thunderbolt, the speedy new port that was a technical collaboration between Apple and Intel. Other changes included the move to Intel's integrated graphics and GPUs from AMD, and a jump to FaceTime HD cameras.
Interest remains in a full overhaul of the MacBook Pro line. Its cousin, the MacBook Air jumped a generation last October, with Apple dubbing it as the "next generation of MacBooks." Reports from MacRumors and TUAW in late July suggested Apple was working on potentially expanding that line to include a larger 15-inch model, however, it remains unclear whether that would be a part of the Air family, or Apple moving towards a new design on its Pro notebook line.

Alienware vs other brand of PC

   Everyone knows Alienware product is for gaming. This type of PC is the most powerful PC in the universe.
what about other brand of PC. HP,SONY, ACER, TOSHIBA, and MAC. Which one people mostly choose to purchase.
   In my opinion, I would like to choose other brand of laptop or PC instead of Alienware. Because after Alienware released. All other brand of PC also released Intel core i7 CPU of PC, and they offer free upgrade for hard drive or something else. Customer would  like to choose other brand instead of Alienware.
   In fact, base on all the soft program or game. We don't need Alienware products, because a lot of software or program requirement is not high. In my mind, I think that Alienware is only for rich people, who want to HD gaming or the PC process faster.

Alienware laptop's appearance is the coolest. Features are at the top. People call Alienware is the most powerful laptop in universe.
Alienware is combine all top spare parts. That's why it's fastest and powerful laptop.

Mac, tiny and light. Apple product, which is not support .exe file. However, Mac is the best laptop for office or student to use. All apple laptop is not for gaming.

Other brand of PC. For example, HP, TOSHIBA, SONY, ACER etc. I think that most people choose those brand of PC, because they can play game, and use for offices. However, there still a lot of people choose Apple, because the brand is famous.









   Of course, Apple and Alienware product is more expensive than other brand, because of the brand. Other brand of laptop is cheaper than Apple and Alienware. I would like to choose other brand, because other brand of laptop got same as Apple or Alienware did. Intel core i7 CPU, 3G graphic, something like that.
Would you spend more several hundred dollars to purchase Apple or Alienware products?
By the way, that's what I thought. Not everyone thinks like that. Maybe some people have their own reasons etc.

Apple vs. Microsoft: Which i would like to use?

  Everyone has an opinion about user interfaces. The trouble is, most people don’t have enough experience to back those opinions up. Among PC and Mac users worldwide, most use one platform regularly and rarely if ever use the other.

  For example, I am a PC user, and i have never use Mac, because i mostly use PC. PC and Mac got different features. Feature of Mac is likely better than PC. By the way, i would like to choose Mac user interface, because it is more beautiful, and convenient.

  Both of them got too much different interface, and feature.

however .exe file is only for windows only. Apple does not support exe.

If Apple can change this feature, and support .exe file. 
I think that more consumer will choose Apple.
